Prentice Hospital by tom-harris

This photograph, made in the spring of 2013, was my first magazine cover as a professional photographer. I had the December issue of Metropolis Magazine, the issue focused on the great buildings we lost in 2013.

Sadly the series of photographs I made of this magnificent building were the last made while it was standing. Demolition began immediately following the completion of the photo project. A new hospital will replace it soon.

Here is a link to the Metropolis issue.

Cloud Gate by tom-harris

Cloud Gate, my introductory image here on 500px. This image was made just before sunrise in Millennium Park. Anish Kapoor’s Cloud Gate, better known as “The Bean” reflects the Michigan Avenue skyline behind me as I look toward sunrise over Lake Michigan beyond.

It was a pleasure to have the entire park to myself before it opened that day. This sculpture is regularly surrounded by throngs of tourists and curious locals watching their reflections distort as they walk around and under the sculpture.

Fireworks over Cincinnati by Moneymaker

My lovely wife took me to see the John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge in Cincinnati. It spans the Ohio River between Cincinnati, Ohio and Covington, Kentucky. We didn’t get a chance to walk across it but the first pedestrians crossed it on December 1, 1866. At that time it was the longest suspension bridge in the world at 1,057 feet. This is an amazing place to visit. That evening we saw a steamboat carrying passengers down the river. I hope you enjoy the photo!
