The Shard is a 95-storey skyscraper in Southwark, London, that forms part of the London Bridge Quarter development. The Shard’s construction began in March 2009 and completed in November 2012. The tower’s privately operated observation deck, The View from The Shard, was opened to the public on 1 February 2013.
Standing 309.6 metres, The Shard is currently the tallest building in the European Union. It was designed by the Italian architect Renzo Piano and replaced Southwark Towers, a 24-storey office block built on the site in 1975. The Shard was developed by Sellar Property on behalf of LBQ Ltd and is jointly owned by Sellar Property and the State of Qatar.
Taken a little later in the evening after ‘Flywheel’. I totally lucked out with a well placed (almost) full moon. Continuing to explore the many iconic spots in this incredibly photogenic city. Comments welcome!
I always wanted to travel the world, but never ever thought of a nice ‘excuse’ to do that.. My passion to art and expressing my feelings leaded me to photography. Photography leaded me to traveling.
At the first stop of my journey around the world was London. Unfortunately this time i didn’t had plenty of time to take all the pictures that i wanted, but this is such an amazing city full of interesting architecture and amazing weather (at least for photographers) that i’m sure that i will get back. The light was so soft at that period, so mysterious, was changing so frequently that every photo in the same day seemed like it was taken in a period of a whole week!
In this pic i stand right opposite Big Ben and the Westminster palace. A classic pic. Im at the ground level, placing my camera on the wall that separated me from the Thames river. After a stormy day in London, thought it would be a good idea to capture the sun setting behind Big Ben, as the humid atmosphere was promising some nice colours in the sky. I guess i was right…
