101 Sunset by miketlim

Not satisfied with the photos I got the first time I climbed the Elephant Mountain Hiking Trail, I made the ascent again on my last day in Taiwan. There were quite a few more clouds in the sky which translated into more colours and the opportunity to do some long exposures.

The Taipei 101 is a skyscraper located in the Xinyi District of Taipei. When it opened in 2004, it was the tallest building in the world until the opening of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai on 2010.

This photo is comprised 2 exposures and was manually blended using luminosity masks.

Processed using Adobe Lightroom 6 and Photoshop CC 2015.

This view of Taipei’s skyline was shot from the Elephant Mountain Hiking Trail. It’s a short and steep climb to the top but definitely worth the effort.

Sunset over Taipei by peterstewartphotography

The Taipei skyline as seen from the viewpoint at the top of the Elephant trail, a popular hiking spot right in the middle of the city. To the right is the iconic “Taipei 101” or the Wok in a Box as I like to call it.

Taipei 101 by ZacharyV

Taipei 101 ( 臺北101), formerly known as the Taipei World Financial Center, is a landmark supertall skyscraper in Xinyi District, Taipei, Taiwan. The building was officially classified as the world’s tallest in 2004, and remained such until the opening of Burj Khalifa in Dubai in 2010.

In 2011, the building was awarded the LEED platinum certification, the highest award according the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system, and became the tallest and largest green building in the world.

Taipei 101 was designed by C.Y. Lee & partners and constructed primarily by KTRT Joint Venture. The construction started in 1999 and finished in 2004. The tower has served as an icon of modern Taiwan ever since its opening. The building was architecturally created as a symbol of the evolution of technology and Asian tradition (see Symbolism). Its postmodernist approach to style incorporates traditional design elements and gives them modern treatments. The tower is designed to withstand typhoons and earthquakes.

A multi-level shopping mall adjoining the tower houses hundreds of stores, restaurants and clubs. Fireworks launched from Taipei 101 feature prominently in international New Year’s Eve broadcasts and the structure appears frequently in travel literature and international media.
