Vancouver in a blaze of glory by aagazzi

Vancouver seen from Stanley Park. After a week on the Olympic Peninsula without seeing a single cloud my trip was in danger to become a rather boring one. Even in the Hoh Rain Forest I had clear skys rather than some rain or drizzle. I decided to move on to Vancouver to take some cityscapes. On the day before flying back home I had finally the luck and the sky began to change. The picture above was taken during the blue hour, what a glory end of my stay. Vancouver, B.C. by VisualSensory

Vancouver is such a beautiful city. Being there, you get the feeling that the city is completely enclosed by nature. Seattle is the only other big city that has given me a similar feeling and is one of the many reasons why I love the Pacific Northwest so much. Vancouver has a unique character that makes a quick visit quite fun. If you like trying new microbrews, check out Granville Island Brewing and Steamworks Brew Pub. If you’re a burger snob, the burger I had at Granville Island Brewing was phenomenal. It was hands down the best in town.

Now, I’m not from Canada you see, so I don’t know the city intimately the way the locals do. I’m not up to speed on my Canadian history or their traditions either. Normally this wouldn’t be a big deal except that every night at 9pm they fire off a very loud canon at Stanley Park. I now know this because I unknowingly picked a vantage point to shoot photos from that was less than 50 feet from this canon, and it just happened to be about 9pm when I started shooting. Needless to say it scared the living daylights out of me. What’s even funnier was this guy near by intentionally took his girlfriend for a walk past the canon so it would scare her when it went off. He was on the ground laughing hysterically while she was slapping him profusely. Apparently not all Canadians know about the firing of the canon. Me being the prankster that I am, I couldn’t help but chuckle a bit.
