Sculpture by the Sea, Aarhus is Denmark’s biggest and a unique outdoor sculpture exhibition. Along Aarhus scenic coast line sculptures are presented on the beach, the waterfront and in the forest. The exhibition area is accessible at any hour and free to the public.
We offer free guided tours every weekend, and thanks to a huge support from various partners we also offer hundreds of additional events for everyone – varying from art lectures to sports and fun workshops for children. All activities are posted online during the summer.
In June 2009 Sculpture by the Sea Aarhus – Denmark was launched, in association with the City of Aarhus and ARoS Aarhus Art Museum, under the patronage of The Crown Prince and Crown Princess of Denmark.
The initiative to establish the exhibition in Scandinavia came from The Crown Prince Couple’s familiarity with, and enthusiasm for, the Bondi Exhibition, which they visited as part of Sculpture by the Sea’s 15th anniversary celebrations.
With an estimated half a million visitors both 2009, 2011 and 2013 Sculpture by the Sea, Aarhus – Denmark is a fantastic success, embraced by the Danes and the many international tourists. In 2015 we will exhibit 57 works from artists/groups from 24 different countries.
Sculpture by the Sea, Aarhus – Denmark is financially and legally independent of Sculpture by the Sea Incorporated and is being produced by the city of Aarhus in collaboration with ARoS Aarhus Art Museum at neither cost nor profit to the Australian organisation.
