Venice, a truly magical city, lost in the mists of time. Still at war, not with the Ottoman empire or the Papal states, but now against the encroaching sea and the crumbling of it’s own infrastructure. Besieged not by the armies of Napoleon or Milan, but instead, the hordes of tourists disgorged by cruise ships like LST’s at Normandy on D-Day. Could this most beautiful and powerful city, once the Jewel of the Adriatic, La Serenissima, possibly suffer a more ignominious defeat? Time, of course, will provide the answer.
