Freedom Tower (1WTC) reflected in 9/11 memorial. Today marks the 14th anniversary of the 9/11 attackes and the newly constructed Freedom tower is a reminder of the gruesome attack and freedom stands tall. At a height of 1776 ft -signifies the year of US declaration of independence.

It was a profoundly moving experience to visit both the memorial pools (the largest man-made waterfalls in the world) in the footprints of the original World Trade Center towers and to look up at the staggeringly beautiful new monument to the persistence of freedom and the American ideal. The new World Trade Center 1 is a gorgeous building, and a great deal of love and care has gone into crafting the monuments at Ground Zero as well as the amazing 9/11 Memorial Museum. Definitely a highlight from a recent extended visit to NYC. I’ve done my best to capture both elements in this shot along with a sunstar off the new tower from the morning sun.

My first time to the 9/11 Memorial and wasn’t there very long. Will have to go back and spend more time. I was in my office on 25th Street on 9/11 and watched the planes fly into the towers and saw them come down. A terrible day that will live with me forever. The memorial is a powerful place for remembering, reflection, contemplation and honoring those who have fallen, but is also one of the many hearts that beat in this city and as the new buildings rise around it, you are reminded that this city truly is the greatest on this planet.
