Book Worms Can Now Experience Running A Scottish Bookshop

The bookshop listed on Airbnb lets renters become the shopkeeper for $49 a night

Some people have fantasies of owning a small cafe, flower shop or some other sort of quaint business in a beautiful and semi-remote town. Airbnb wants to make this fantasy a reality, specifically for those who love books. In a beautiful town on the southwest coast of Scotland, travelers can choose to stay and run a local bookshop for at least a week. Called the Open Book, visitors pay a low price of $49 a night and all proceeds go to the nonprofit.

The bookshop is located in Wigtown, a few hours drive from Glasgow. It is recognized as Scotland’s National Book Town and has been the setting for literary classics like The 39 Steps. Beyond the bookstore, the town also has woodlands, old castles, farms and other beautiful sights for visitors to explore.

Although paying to run a bookstore may seem like a strange idea, the Airbnb actually is currently booked through October 2020.
